Extractions

Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. This procedure is typically performed when a tooth is severely damaged, decayed, or is causing problems that cannot be resolved with other dental treatments. While tooth extractions are common, they are usually considered a last resort after all other options have been explored.

01

Severe Decay :

When decay has reached the tooth's pulp and the tooth cannot be saved with a filling or root canal treatment.

02

Infection :

If the tooth is infected and the infection has spread to the surrounding bone and tissue.

03

Crowding :

When there is not enough space in the mouth for the teeth, often in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

04

Impacted Teeth

Teeth that are blocked from emerging properly, such as wisdom teeth.

The Extraction Procedure :

The process of tooth extraction typically involves the following steps:

  • Anesthesia : The area around the tooth is numbed with a local anesthetic to ensure the patient feels no pain during the procedure.
  • Tooth Loosening : The dentist uses dental instruments to loosen the tooth from its socket. For some teeth, this may involve rocking the tooth back and forth.
  • Extraction : The tooth is gently removed using forceps. For teeth that are broken off at the gum line, the dentist may need to remove them in pieces.
  • Post-Procedure Care : After the tooth is removed, the dentist may place stitches to close the gum tissue. A gauze pad is often placed in the socket to control bleeding.
